Whey protein isolate (WPI) is a high-protein filtered milk product containing very little fats, lactose or carbohydrates. Our high-quality WPI is sourced from New Zealand, where the dairy farming practices and pristine environment are unparalleled. Our whey undergoes less acidification and pasteurisation than others, resulting in a superior essential amino acid profile.

We include a tiny amount of non-GMO soy lecithin in our whey protein blends - 0.1%. It is an emulsifier that’s needed for mixing, and it keeps the whey powder from bricking when mixed with liquid.

Raw Berry Tarts

Raw Berry Tarts

  • 3/4 cup raw cashew nuts
  • 1 x 20ml tablespoon Bare Blends Black Chia Seeds
  • 2 x 20ml tablespoons Bare Blends Bare Whey Protein Isolate (or their Vanilla & Coconut Plant Protein)
  • 2 x 20ml tablespoons rice malt syrup
  • 1 x 20ml tablespoon extra virgin coconut oil, melted
  • 1/2 cup thick portion of refrigerated coconut cream *
  • 2 x 20ml tablespoons Bare Blends Bare Berries
  • Fresh or frozen raspberries for topping

1. To make the tart shells, blend the cashew nuts and Chia Seeds in a food processor until you get fine crumbs. Add the Bare Whey protein, rice malt syrup and coconut oil and blend until everything is well combined. 2. Divide the mixture up into 8 balls and press each ball into a non-stick silicone mini muffin tray (or a solid mini muffin tray lined with patty pans to allow for removal). Set aside in the fridge or freezer until firm. 3. While the tart shells are firming up, mix the coconut cream and Bare Berries powder together in a bowl until well combined and smooth. Cover and set aside in the fridge until ready to serve. 4. Once the tart shells are set, pop them out of the silicone tray and place on a serving dish. Just before serving, spoon the berry filling into the tart shells and top with a raspberry. Enjoy straight away. * Leave a 400ml can of coconut cream (look for an organic one if possible) in the fridge overnight. The cream will separate leaving the thick portion at the top of the can and the liquid portion at the bottom. Carefully spoon out the thick portion to use in the recipe (you can use up the liquid potion by adding it to a smoothie!).

  • 3/4 cup unflavoured whey protein powder (I use Bare Blends Bare Whey Protein Isolate)
  • 3/4 cup oat flour
  • 2 x 20ml tablespoons maca powder (I use Bare Blends Organic Raw Peruvian Maca Powder) *
  • 1 x 20ml tablespoon coconut flour
  • 1 x 20ml tablespoon extra virgin coconut oil, melted
  • 2 x 20ml tablespoons rice malt syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Unsweetened desiccated coconut, for coating

1. Tip the protein powder, oat flour, maca powder and coconut flour into a bowl and mix to combine. Make a well in the centre and pour in the melted coconut oil, rice malt syrup and water. 2. Using a large and sturdy spoon, stir everything together until well combined. (I recommend using a large and sturdy spoon because the mixture gets very thick and sticky so you'll need to use your muscles to stir everything until well combined. I used a thin metal spoon once and it ended up slightly bent). If the mixture is way too sticky, add a little extra coconut flour. If it's way too dry, add a little extra water. Break off pieces of the mixture and shape into bars in your hands. 3. Coat in some desiccated coconut and then leave them in the fridge to set. Store the bars in the fridge for up to 1 week. Makes about 4 - 6 bars (depending on how large you want them).

Black Sesame & Chia Protein Balls

  • 1/2 cup raw cashew nuts
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened desiccated coconut
  • 3 x 20ml tablespoons Bare Whey Protein Isolate
  • 1 x 20ml tablespoon coconut flour
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 2 x 20ml tablespoons black tahini
  • 3 x 20ml tablespoons rice malt syrup
  • 1 x 20ml tablespoon extra virgin coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • Organic Chia Seeds, for coating

1. Process the cashews, coconut, protein powder, coconut flour and sea salt in a food processor until you get fine crumbs. 2. Add the tahini, rice malt syrup, coconut oil and water and process until the mixture comes together in a ball. Set the mixture aside in the freezer for a few minutes to firm up slightly. 3. Roll the mixture into balls and coat in the chia seeds. Place in the fridge for a few hours to set. Store in the fridge or freezer.


Is whey protein isolate suitable for lactose intolerant people?

Bare Blends whey protein isolate blends contains almost no lactose, and are suitable for lactose intolerant people. The NZ whey protein concentrate contains significantly more lactose, and is not as suitable for those with intolerances.

What is the best storage method?

The best method of storage is in a cool, dry location, and properly closed. Refrigeration should only be used when room temperature exceeds 27 degrees Celsius.

What is the shelf life?

Bare Blends' products have a 24-month shelf life from date of manufacture. The expiration date is clearly listed on the package. We are committed to keeping our batch sizes small to ensure maximum freshness of our products.

What are the serving sizes?

The recommended serving size is 30g, which equates to 3 tablespoons. Our serving sizes are an estimate for the average person, however, each individual will have different requirement for their optimal protein consumption. You may wish to experiment with the serving size until you find a quantity that suits you. For people consuming whey for weight management, consume 20-30g per serving For athletes aiming to increase lean muscle growth, or participating in strenuous exercise, consume 35g or more.

What is the amino acid profile of WPI?

Whey protein is one of the few sources that naturally contain all 20 amino acids, making it a complete protein. Bare Blends’ whey protein isolate blends have a superior amino acid profile, and are especially undenatured due to low-temperature processing. They provide our bodies with the most functional protein to recover, repair and build muscles, and also boosting our immunity. Is whey protein suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?

Our whey protein blends use the highest quality wheys available, and don't include any artificial ingredients or high-level doses of synthesised amino acids. It should be an acceptable source of protein during pregnancy for healthy women without dairy allergens. As pregnancy is extremely personalised, we do recommend that prior to taking whey protein, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a physician to be sure whey protein is right for them.

Is whey protein suitable for children?

Although we use only the highest quality ingredients in all our blends, with nothing artificial or even 'natural' flavours, unfortunately we are unable to provide dietary advice for children under the age of 16. Therefore, we must recommend you seek the professional opinion of your family health care physician.

Isn’t whey protein just for athletes and bodybuilders?

No, absolutely not. Whey protein has long been the protein supplementation of choice for athletes and bodybuilders because it is the most easily absorbed, high protein source available. But protein is important for everyone, not just athletes and bodybuilders, and can be incorporated to almost any diet to support a healthy lifestyle!

Can I use WPI as meal replacement?

Yes, protein shakes can be used as meal replacements, especially if blended with nut milk, dairy milk, or coconut water and nuts/fruits/veggies. This will make a satiating smoothie that will keep you feeling full and provide you with nutrients and energy throughout the day. We do of course recommend a healthy wholefood diet in conjunction with our supplements, and at least a minimal amount of exercise per day so that you can make the most out of our protein and it's lean-muscle building and weight-management attributes.

Is our whey protein powder organic?

While not certified organic, our whey has all the advantages of 100% natural pastures. The milk for our whey proteins is derived from cows that are grass-fed and graze year-round on natural pastures. It is GMO-free, hormone-treatment-free, pesticide-free and undergoes minimal processing.
