Whey protein isolate questions

Is WPI suitable for lactose intolerant people?

WPI generally contains less lactose than whey protein concentrate, but it is not necessarily lactose-free. Individual tolerance varies, so suitability depends on the product and your sensitivity. Whey is made from milk and is not suitable for people with a milk allergy.

What is whey protein isolate?

Whey protein isolate, often called WPI, is a filtered dairy protein powder that is naturally high in protein and lower in lactose, fat and carbohydrates than whey protein concentrate. It is popular for shakes, smoothies and adding extra protein to everyday meals.

What's the difference between WPI and WPC?

WPI is more filtered than whey protein concentrate, giving it a higher protein percentage and less lactose, fat and carbohydrates. WPC has a creamier texture and naturally contains more milk solids. Choose WPI if you prefer a lighter shake with less fat and carbohydrate, or WPC if you prefer a creamier texture.

What is the best storage method?

Store your whey protein isolate in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the pouch properly sealed. Follow the storage instructions on your product packaging.

What is shelf life?

Bare Blends' products have a 24-month shelf life from date of manufacture. The expiration date is clearly listed on the package. We are committed to keeping our batch sizes small to ensure maximum freshness of our products.

What is the serving size?

A standard serving is 30g. Check the directions on your individual product label. Your daily protein needs depend on your diet, activity level and individual circumstances.

What is the amino acid profile of WPI?

Whey protein naturally provides all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Bare Blends’ whey protein isolate blends are naturally rich in BCAAs, including leucine, isoleucine and valine. Protein supports muscle recovery, growth and maintenance. You can view the essential amino acid profile in the nutritional information on each product page.

Is WPI suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?

Our whey protein blends use the highest quality wheys available, and don't include any artificial ingredients or high-level doses of synthesised amino acids. It should be an acceptable source of protein during pregnancy for healthy women without dairy allergens. As pregnancy is extremely personalised, we do recommend that prior to taking whey protein, pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a physician to be sure whey protein is right for them. All whey blends contain milk, and Japanese Matcha WPI also contains caffeine.

Is whey protein suitable for children?

Although we use only the highest quality ingredients in all our blends, with nothing artificial or even 'natural' flavours, unfortunately we are unable to provide dietary advice for children under the age of 16. Children’s protein needs vary with age, growth and diet. Speak with your child’s doctor or an accredited practising dietitian before using a protein supplement, and check the ingredients and directions for the specific product.

Isn't whey protein just for athletes and bodybuilders?

No, absolutely not. Whey protein has long been the protein supplementation of choice for athletes and bodybuilders because it is the most easily absorbed, high protein source available. But protein is important for everyone, not just athletes and bodybuilders, and can be incorporated to almost any diet to support a healthy lifestyle!

Is our whey protein organic?

Our whey protein powders are not certified organic. We use grass-fed whey, and some flavoured blends contain certified organic ingredients such as raw cacao. Check each product’s ingredient list to see which ingredients are organic.

How does whey protein help with weight loss?

Whey protein can help you meet your protein needs as part of a balanced eating plan. Protein supports muscle maintenance, but whey protein does not cause weight loss on its own or prevent fat storage. Weight changes depend on your overall energy intake, activity and individual circumstances.

How does whey protein isolate help with muscle building?

WPI provides all nine essential amino acids, and protein supports muscle growth and maintenance. Combined with resistance training and adequate overall nutrition, it can help you meet the protein needs of an active routine. Our WPI blends provide 24.2–26.6g protein per 30g serving, depending on flavour.

What is the best time to have protein?

There is no single best time to have protein. Use WPI after exercise or whenever it helps you meet your daily protein needs, such as in a breakfast smoothie or mixed into oats. Your total daily intake matters more than a specific timing window.

Can you have protein powder at night?

Yes, you can have protein powder at night if it suits your routine and helps you meet your daily protein needs. Choose a blend that suits you and allow for your own digestive comfort. Japanese Matcha WPI contains caffeine, so it may be less suitable close to bedtime.
