Our whey protein isolate (WPI) comes directly from fresh grass-fed cow’s milk in New Zealand and is manufactured via a low temperature ultrafiltration. This results in a pure protein source, virtually lactose free, undenatured whey protein powder that is rich in essential amino acids and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). We blend organic wholefoods with each whey protein isolate powder, which provides delicious flavours as well as added nutritional benefits.
Is whey protein isolate suitable for lactose intolerant people?
Bare Blends whey protein isolate (WPI) blends contain almost no lactose, and are suitable for most lactose intolerant people. The whey protein concentrate (WPC) contains significantly more lactose, and is not as suitable for those with intolerances.
What is whey protein?
Milk protein is comprised of casein and whey. Casein is unsuitable for many due to digestion issues, whereas whey protein, with heavily reduced fats and lactose, is generally more tolerated. Whey protein is the richest natural source of the essential building blocks for muscles, branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). It is a complete protein in that it contains all 20 amino acids, unlike many other proteins such as soy.
What's the difference between WPI and WPC?
In the simplest possible explanation the only difference between the two is the level of lactose and fats. This means that WPC is not suitable for people that are lactose intolerant. Both products are manufactured from freese cheese whey via a chemical and heat free micro filtration process. There is one key difference; WPI has one extra level of filtration that removes most of the carbohydrates (lactose) and fats. Whey Protein Isolate goes through one more filtration compared to Whey Protein Concentrate. This extra step removes almost all of the remaining lactose and fats. Because of this extra filtration most people can tolerant the tiny amount of lactose in WPI. We strongly recommend that if you are lactose intolerant you choose WPI over WPC.
What is the best storage method?
The best method of storage for whey protein isolate is in a cool, dry location, and properly closed. Refrigeration should only be used when room temperature exceeds 27 degrees Celsius.
What is the shelf life of whey protein isolate?
Bare Blends' products have a 24-month shelf life from date of manufacture. The expiration date is clearly listed on the package. We are committed to keeping our batch sizes small to ensure maximum freshness of our products.
What are the serving sizes for WPI protein?
The recommended serving size is 30g, which equates to 3 tablespoons. Our serving sizes are an estimate for the average person, however, each individual will have different requirement for their optimal protein consumption. You may wish to experiment with the serving size until you find a quantity that suits you. For people consuming whey protein for weight management, consume 20-30g per serving For athletes aiming to increase lean muscle growth, or participating in strenuous exercise, consume 35g or more.
What is the amino acid profile of WPI?
Whey protein is one of the few sources that naturally contain all 20 amino acids, making it a complete protein. Bare Blends’ whey protein isolate blends have a superior amino acid profile, and are especially undenatured due to low-temperature processing. They provide our bodies with the most functional protein to recover, repair and build muscles, and also boosting our immunity. The essential amino acids in each WPI protein can be viewed in the nutritional table on the product page.
Is whey protein suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
Our whey protein blends use the highest quality wheys available, and don't include any artificial ingredients or high-level doses of synthesised amino acids. It should be an acceptable source of protein during pregnancy for healthy women without dairy allergens. But protein is important for everyone, not just athletes and bodybuilders, and can be incorporated to almost any diet to support a healthy lifestyle!

As well as this, protein builds metabolically active muscle and prevents body fat storage.
How does whey protein help with muscle building?
Our WPI blends contain an optimal amino acid profile, which is needed to repair and maintain muscle tissue. After exercise, amino acids in protein will help to repair any exercise-induced damage; building stronger muscle fibres, decreasing your recovery time, and restoring energy levels. Bare Blends WPI protein blends are perfect for post-workout. This is due to the very high levels of protein (roughly 26g per 30g serve) and minimal amounts of sugars, carbs, and fats. It will provide your muscles with the nutrients they need to recover quickly after exercise.
When is the best time to have protein?
We recommend having a protein shake after you exercise (either cardio, weights, or anything that uses your muscles/tears the fibres which means they'll need repairing). For weight loss, we also recommend having a smoothie in the morning to substitute your breakfast and keep your feeling satiated until lunchtime. We recommend having no more than two servings (60g) of protein powder per day, unless training heavily or recommended by your medical professional or nutritionist.
Can you have protein powder at night?
You can also have protein powder at night. Protein contains amino acids such as tryptophan which help to regulate sleep and wake cycles. Eating foods high in protein can induce better sleep quality.
